The plight of many Christian evangelists in the 10/40 Window remain dire. Today, Christian Post reports that two evangelists survived an attack in India by playing dead last week when Hindu extremists surrounded them and severely beat them. From Christian Post- An organization of over 2,500 Korean American pastors and their congregations expressed disappointment Wednesday over the announcement by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding new sanctions against North Korea, believing that they do not go nearly far enough and can do more harm than good. From Christian Post: “Two churches and a non-governmental organization working with the authorities have effectively stemmed a cholera outbreak in a district of Cambodia. The outbreak was part of a wider epidemic in the North-eastern Ratanakiri province that has resulted in at least 36 deaths since April.” Read more here.

From Mission Network News: India has suffered a great deal at the hands of heavy rains recently. Flooding in Ambala City in Haryana as well as in Punjab has caused two Compassion International child development centers severe damage. Read the full article for more info.

From Christian Post: The World Evangelical Alliance, which serves  and connects over 420 millions evangelicals worldwide, will be holding its 2014 General Assembly in South Korea, now the second largest missionary-sending country in the world (after the U.S). This move signals the increasing importance of Asia on the global Christian stage. Read more here.

From Christian Post: “North Korea on Thursday threatened to impose harsher punishment on an imprisoned American citizen who had illegally entered the country earlier this year. Aijalon Mahli Gomes, whom friends describe as a devout Christian, is facing possible “wartime law” because of the United States’ “campaign” to put international pressure on North Korea after the sinking of a South Korean warship.” Click here for the full article. Christian Post reports that Christians in Afghanistan have been facing severe persecution, with religious leaders and even government officials calling for the execution of Christian converts from Islam.  Those of you who have seen 1040 know about the the incredible stories of faith of Christian martyrs who have entered into the region to do evangelistic and humanitarian work. This article further highlights that movement and the tremendous challenges still facing world mission in the region.

The 1040 team recently dug up a fascinating article from the Christianity Today archive: This 2006 story describes the state of Christianity with respect to the working class of Taiwan- one of the key economic centers in Asia and a place where the Christian population remains under 5%. How can the preaching of the Gospel be contextualized and effectively delivered to individuals in varying cultural and social contexts?
