Hi Guys,
There is much work to be done here in South Korea, let alone Asia. I have been a missionary/evangelist for almost a year now, in a rural village about 1hr away SW of Seoul. what I have found is that there is huge deception that reigns over Korea due to confucionism. Legalism and religion are the order of the day and although most churches are full on sundays, it is something they "do" on sundays only. The church is not unified and the pastors of the different denominations do not fraternise with each other. One of the problems is that you have a culture that is more concerned about an appearance and what is perceived than actually being real as this is considered a weakness. The Lord uprooted me and my family from South Africa to come to Asia and to serve His body and His people in Asia with the truth. Korean culture is not an easy culture because of the lingering effects of confucionism which got in-twined with the early church and is still prevalent in many of the churches here in Korea today. My heart goes out to the many many leaders of churches here as they only start making friendships after being at a church for 3 years. The concept of true Grace is foreign to many and many are christian because they are not buddhist. I have seen how many menfolk get drunk on soju, etc on Friday or Saturday and then are singing hallujah and serving as leaders, elders, etc on Sunday. The concept of being the church 24/7 and that they are the church is foreign to them. After speaking to many of them, the laity, their response was that they are not pastors and it is not their job to go and speak to people about their faith, they go to church on Sunday(the whole day)and that is suffice. I love Asia and answered the call of God to come here so as to be part of what God is doing and wanting to do here in Asia. It is all about Jesus.
On His majesties service, In His Majesties service, For His Majesties service
Yours in Christ Jesus
